~ BIRD DIARY : TAMWORTH ~

~Wow~
What a week spent up in Tamworth.
Day 3 saw the band get on up to TRECC and perform the Touchwood Stage, with Friday a double header at Joe Maguires Pub and the HILUX Peel St Stage.
To then close on Saturday with an early start in the annual Cavalcade march followed by an early set, back at the Coca Cola stage 3pm and a good yelping up at Joe Maguires to finish a days work by 8pm… BEER TIME.

We’ve stripped the boots off and put the legs up after an eventful week, meeting great new friends, spread some love and an absolute rip snorter of a ride home.

Yes! We managed to blow 3 tyres on the way home in the Faclon!

Gabby for being the ‘go to girl’ and Andrew for driving the FALCONIAN and being the ‘go to girl’, Mikela for the soul being… and last and definately…
Matt, Andy and Franci ~ CATS ARE BLACK for some spectacular shows together.. you are our new favourite band.

(Tuesday 24 ~ JAN Day 2)

Well, what a start to The Widowbirds week of shows, with a welcoming crowd at Joe Maguires Pub last night.

Cats Are Black ~ are the great support act. Beautiful cinematic
acoustic folk, echoing Bruce Springsteen balladesque moods.
Fronted by the gorgeous female vocalist, Franki along with
brothers Matt & Andrew on acoustic guitar and drums.

Cats Are Black: Support THE WIDOWBIRDS

The Widowbirds open their festival duties with an amazing and dynamic 3pc performance.
Their bass player Simon Wiltshire arrives today cementing the 4pc line up
for the remainder of the festival. Handles on a conga prove ‘Handy’ – as Shane
took to the audience floor with a conga and hand claps drawing in the spirit
of live music into Maguires back bar. All round awesome night, big sound ~ great crowd!

GIGS ~ AHEAD
Coca Cola Stage: 4:30pm – Wed 25th
Touchwood Stage: 1:00pm ~ Thurs 26th

The mighty 67′ XR FALCON 500… belted all 302 cubic inches up

Not bad for it’s maiden voyage in 5 years.

My Fathers House – Bruce Springsteen Cover Version ‘Bare Knuckled’ Sessions by Simon Meli

NEW CLIP: ‘Bare Knuckled Sessions’
Simon Meli has taken it upon himself to record a collection of live solo performances, featuring songs that have inspired him and the writing of The Widowbirds debut album.

The Clip has just gone live and people are jumping on the simply sedating version of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘My Fathers House’ with more tracks to come each week.

The Official SHENANDOAH Album Tour 2012. PRESS RELEASE

THE WIDOWBIRDS announce their debut album tour for February 2012. After a soaring 18 months, an arms length of festival appearances and international supports, the release of their debut album is another feather to stick in their already bushy cap.

‘You boys make a real good noise, and I mean Real Good…’ Tony Joe White (USA)

Their strong passion for the deep yearning in 1960′s and 1970′s based soul rock music, with an undeniably passionate live performance and the handmade boutique approach to their first recording, has crafted them a genre of their own - Hard Soul.

SHENANDOAH is a beautifully sewn first offering touching on the true stories of lives lived, loved and dreamt with the layering of great textures, lying amongst conga junk kit rhythms. Hemmed with an orchestra of strings, Lachlan Doley on Hammond Organ (Powderfinger / Jimmy Barnes) and the amazing soulful raw (roar) of vocalist Simon Meli, completes a great soul album.

The album was recorded and produced by the band on the side of a mountain where singer Simon Meli had been living in Blue Mountains, with the final moments having being captured in a roaming flight out to the inner west where the band have finally nested. Friend and fellow falcon Steve Balbi was responsible for the final mixes, offering his own sleeves to rub up a good shine on the bird’s first lamp.

‘A FEW weeks ago at the Sydney Blues and Roots Festival, Widowbirds built to a standing ovation and compere Glenn A. Baker stormed the stage to predict similar impacts throughout the 2012 season of summer festivals’…  Anthony O’Grady – The Australian Album Review: 4 out of 5 Stars.

Shenandoah puts The Widowbirds squarely on the Australian – and hopefully, the world – map. As a debut, it is scarily solid and fully-formed. None other than swamp king Tony Joe White, who the Widowbirds supported on a recent tour, said “You boys make a real good noise… I mean real good!” As a creator of real good noises himself, Tony Joe should know – in The Widowbirds’ case he is right on the money.
John H – The Orange Press.net
Proudly releasing their record through Laughing Outlaw Records, under the watchful eye of none other than Stuart Coupe - Shenandoah albums have been growing wings and moving units steadily in the last 2 weeks after it was only officially released as physical copies on the 4th November and 18th November through iTunes and Inertia Distribution.
